Bayit offers video “vorts” (words of Torah / teachings from Jewish tradition) offered in or translated into Spanish, designed for Cuban Jewish communities and available to Spanish-speaking Jews everywhere. The Lead Builder for this project is R. Sunny Schnitzer, head of the Cuba America Jewish Mission.

Without a rabbi since 1976, the Cuban Jewish community spent decades with little contact with the Jewish world outside of the island. In 1996, with the permission of the Cuban government, the Jewish community entered into relationships with their international counterparts such as the Joint Distribution Committee, B’nai Brith International, the Cuba America Jewish Mission and others. To this day there is still no resident rabbi in Cuba. The small but dedicated Jewish community receives periodic visiting rabbis, but there is a palpable need for more rabbinic resources. Bayit provides teachings from the Torah and Jewish tradition to the Cuban Jewish community through newly expanded internet service on the island. Videos are shared via Facebook and “el Paquete,” flash drives passed by hand from one person to the next.
